Savings bank

takarekpenztar kicsi Up to 1871 the house of Gusztáv Gruber, the dyer, had stood here, and then the centre of the Savings Bank Co. of Szentgotthárd established by Kálmán Széll was built. The first president of the bank was Kálmán Széll. On the southern facade of the ornamented Art Nouveau building a beehive symbolizes the original function of the property. The Post Office and the Post Savings Bank also operated here.
 In 1891 Gábor Vargha had become the solicitor and then the president of the Savings Bank of Szentgotthárd. It was in this institute that was simply called the „Varga-bank” by the locals where the first civil mutual benefit society of Szentgotthárd and its neighbourhood was formed in 1893 and had been in operation for 30 years, helping poorer families as one of its basic functions.
During its operation the bank had merged with several local and nearby financial institutes and become dominant in the settlement. It had been the most important bank of not only the district, but also of Vas County.
 From 1945 to 1949 a post office used the building and now it is a residential building.
